Mutual Aid To Highland

At 9:55 am on Thursday January 22, 2009 Highland Fire was dispatched to a possible chimney fire at 465 Red Top Rd. While enroute to the scene 31-B was updated from UC 911 that a Town of Lloyd Police officer was on the scene and confirmed an active chimney fire with extension into the structure and UC 911 also advised him that no equipment had responded yet. Car 31-B requested a second dispatch along with an Engine and Tanker from Esopus to the scene. Car 31 upon arriving on the scene determined the severity of the incident and requested a 2nd Alarm assignment(which brings Marlboro's F.A.S.T. Team, Mobile Life Support Services Amubulance and the Arson Task Force). Car 31 also requested and Engine with manpower from Milton and a tanker from New Paltz. Clintondale was put on standby with an engine at Highland Station 1. E 31-20 was the first piece of apparatus on the scene and was instructed to lay-in going into the driveway. The conditions of the driveway made this process almost impossible due to the amount of snow. The fire that started in the chimney had extended into the wall causing the chimney to collapse creating a hole in the side of the structure. The attack team entered the structure and extinguished the fire while an additional team was sent to access the attic area to check for extension. A team was also sent to the roof for ventilation. The fire was under control approximately 15 mins of the dispatch. For property conservation tarps were deployed on the 1st floor. Highland Fire along with all departments were clear of the scene within 2 hrs of the dispatch. Highland Fire was assisted by the Town of Lloyd PD, Esopus, New Paltz, Marlboro, Milton, and Clintondale Fire Departments, Mobile Life Support Services, UC Arson Task Force, and the Town of Lloyd Building Inspector.
